I highly respect the simple Anglo-Saxon approach to woodwork esteeming
handcrafted workmanship. It was an experience to discover the American
Stan Pike’s box-like furniture, the American-Japanese George
Nakashima’s chairs, or the objects of the Finnish companies Ranka and
Tuulipuu. They are simple, their structures are precisely-constructed;
that’s why they are beautiful. It gives them a charm that you can see
the handcrafted workmanship and knowledge of materials when you look at
them. They reflect they are handcrafted.
